This site is featured on the Burrator 2: Yellowmead and Drizzlecombe walk. These photos are of the impressive Yellowmead 4-fold Cairn Circle (SX57486785 Butler Vol. 3. Map 47: 14). According to Butler all but 3 stones were re-erected by the Rev. Hugh Breton in 1921 in a restoration job that R.H. Worth described as being 'very faithfully done'. In 2008 geophysics survey and small scale archaeological digs confirmed that 'the monument was well reconstructed' and definitely a cairn circle. It is possible that there were originally stone rows leading up to the site but the evidence for this remains ambiguous. The archaeological dig found a flint scraper dating to the Neolithic/Bronze Age (at least 3,000 years old).
These photos were taken on the 9th August 2009.
